Supporting and managing conditions by Acupuncture
Chronic Pain/ Musculoskeletal Disorders
-
Acupuncture is widely regarded as an effective treatment for chronic pain, supported by both clinical research and its inclusion in established medical guidelines. Studies have shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins and modulates pain perception by affecting the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and improving circulation. This makes it a valuable approach for managing conditions like osteoarthritis, lower back pain, migraines, and fibromyalgia, amongst others. Notably, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK recommends acupuncture as a treatment option for chronic pain, particularly in cases of chronic primary pain where conventional treatments may be insufficient. By offering a non-pharmacological, evidence-based option for pain management, acupuncture serves as a complementary therapy that can help patients and improve their quality of life.
-
Emotional/ Hormonal Imbalances
-
Acupuncture is increasingly recognized for its ability to address both physical and emotional imbalances by influencing key neurobiological pathways. It regulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which manages the body’s stress response, and modulates neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which are essential for mood regulation. Studies suggest its effectiveness in treating conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders, providing a holistic approach to emotional health. Additionally, acupuncture’s capacity to stabilize the autonomic nervous system helps address physical symptoms that often accompany emotional distress, such as hormonal imbalances and chronic tension. This integration of mind and body makes acupuncture a valuable tool for those seeking emotional and physical well-being support.
-
Immune System Support
-
Acupuncture is a powerful and effective way to enhance and regulate the immune system, offering a natural approach to fortifying the body’s defenses. By targeting specific acupuncture points, it stimulates the nervous and endocrine systems, which are integral to immune health. This activation not only helps the body respond more effectively to infections but also reduces harmful inflammation, a key factor in managing both chronic and acute health conditions. Acupuncture promotes a balanced immune response, ensuring the body can defend itself without overreacting or becoming compromised. For those seeking a proactive, holistic method to strengthen their overall health and resilience, acupuncture provides a well-rounded solution that supports long-term immune function and vitality, making it an indispensable part of preventive care.
-
General wellness and preventive care
-
Acupuncture is gaining widespread recognition for supporting general wellness and preventive care, providing a holistic approach that promotes balance and enhances the body’s natural healing processes. By stimulating specific points along the body’s meridians, acupuncture regulates the nervous system, improves circulation, and supports immune function. Studies suggest that regular acupuncture treatments can help reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall energy levels—factors critical to maintaining long-term health. Additionally, acupuncture has been shown to regulate the body’s homeostatic functions, including hormonal balance and digestion, which are essential for preventing chronic conditions before they arise. This proactive approach to health is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine’s philosophy of treating the root causes of imbalance rather than just the symptoms, offering individuals a powerful tool for maintaining optimal well-being and preventing illness.

Women's Health/ Hormonal Imbalances
-
Acupuncture is a well-established therapeutic approach in women’s health, backed by both traditional practices and emerging research. It works by stimulating specific acupuncture points along the body’s meridians to influence the nervous system, promote hormonal balance, and regulate blood flow. Studies have shown its effectiveness in addressing a variety of gynaecological and reproductive concerns, including menstrual irregularities, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and fertility challenges, amongst others. Acupuncture can also play a significant role in supporting IVF treatments by improving ovarian function and increasing blood flow to the uterus, potentially enhancing implantation success.
For pregnant women, acupuncture offers relief from common discomforts such as nausea, back pain, and fatigue while also preparing the body for labour. During menopause, acupuncture has been found to help alleviate symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings by stabilising the autonomic nervous system. Overall, acupuncture provides a natural, non-invasive approach to women’s health, helping to optimise reproductive function and support well-being throughout various life stages.

My journey in acupuncture began with my own healing. As a young girl, a relapse of jaundice led to immune disorders like hypothyroidism and arthritis, causing excruciating pain. Despite turning to Western medicine, the treatments brought side effects that left me feeling isolated and confined. It was then that my mother introduced me to acupuncture—a discovery that transformed my life. Acupuncture became my first line of defense in managing arthritis, helping me regain control and relief.
I hold a Licentiate degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the prestigious City College of Acupuncture. I am a proud member of the British Acupuncture Council, the only regulatory body for acupuncture accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. I also assist the teaching faculty at the City College of Acupuncture in London.

The number of sessions needed varies for each person and condition. Generally, acute issues may require fewer treatments, while chronic conditions may take longer to see improvement. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your specific health needs, create a personalised treatment plan, and provide an estimated number of sessions to help you achieve the best results.
-
To make the most of your acupuncture session, it’s best to arrive well-hydrated and have a light meal about an hour or two before your appointment (avoiding being too full or on an empty stomach).
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to your arms and legs. Specific acupuncture points may require partial undressing during your session to allow proper access. I will always discuss this with you beforehand to ensure you’re comfortable. If you prefer, we can use alternative points to achieve similar results, so your comfort is my priority.
Avoid vigorous exercise or alcohol right before your session.
Most importantly, come with an open mind and be ready to relax.

Acupuncture is generally very gentle, and most people find the experience relaxing. The needles are extremely thin—about the width of a human hair—and are designed to minimize any discomfort. You might feel a small sensation upon insertion, like a tingling, warmth, or gentle pressure, but it should not be painful. Many clients find the process soothing and often describe a deep sense of relaxation during and after the treatment.
-
After your session, it is normal to feel relaxed and calm. Some people may experience immediate relief from their symptoms, while for others, the benefits may become more apparent over the following days. It's possible to feel a bit tired or drowsy after treatment, so it's best to plan for some quiet time afterward. Drinking plenty of water and listening to your body are key to enhancing the benefits of your session.

At HBA, we kindly request at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer the time to another client needing care. Cancellations made within less than 24 hours or missed appointments will incur a full session fee. We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we appreciate your consideration in respecting this policy to help us manage our time and provide the best possible service to all clients.
